Comparison

I decided to carry out a comparison between feature length and short film poster. This was on the basis to see if there were any similarities, but more importantly and differences.

Feature length film poster:
A Good Year

Short film Poster:
Heartless

There is a significant difference between short film posters and feature length film posters.
However, there are still many similarities between them. These are the inclusion of the film’s title, “Heatless” and “A good year”. These are designed to inform the audience. There is also a tag line for the film “The story of a tin man” and “Sometimes it takes a change of scenery to have a change of heart”. But most importantly there is an image relating to the content of the film, normally, of the main protagonists within the film. There is also the production company mentioned on the film posters, however, for different reasons. The short film includes it, in this instance “Whitestone Motion Pictures”, as it might be an important feature as it is most recognisable to the audience. Whereas the Feature length film posters is normally legally contracted to include the major companies who were involved in the production of the film, “20th Century fox”.

This is where the similarity ends as both these types of film consists of very different elements. For example in the feature length film “A good year” it contains the main famous actors name “Russell Crowe” and the director “Ridley Scott”, whilst the short film does not mention them as they primarily star unknown actors. It also includes the names of the important workers of the film, including, the Director, Producers, Musician and Editor. It also includes the certificate for the film, in this example of “A good year” it is the American version and included the rating from the ‘Motion Picture Association of America’.  The feature length film normally also includes the release date of the film, either for the cinema release or home distribution.
